True Vineyard Widows Provide Organic Yarn for Jack Spade, Inc.’s On Purpose Initiative.
On Purpose products are set to drop in nine Jack Spade branded stores, throughout the U.S., on Tuesday, November 4th.
In a workshop near Masoro, Rwanda, 150 Rwandan artisans worked cooperatively to form the On Purpose initiative by Kate Spade NY. On Purpose is a Kate Spade NY initiative that hopes to “provide economic stability to positively transform Masoro and the surrounding community, of near 20,000 people.” The Kate Spade NY group’s investment in Rwanda intends to prepare the Artisans of Masoro to be “an independent supplier in the global marketplace.”
The yarn utilized for the On Purpose, Holiday 2014, Jack Spade collection was made in Rwanda through a partnership with True Vineyard Ministries, Inc. True Vineyard Ministries, based in San Marcos, Texas, employs 44 widows in the nation of Rwanda. True Vineyard widows start by harvesting 100% pure merino wool from a flock of sheep. True Vineyard widows then clean the merino wool by hand and spin the wool into soft hand spun yarn. The organic yarn is then dyed using flower petals and natural dyes to achieve various colors.
True Vineyard has been working in the nation of Rwanda since 2007. True Vineyard began the partnership with Kate Spade, Inc. in March of 2014 and continues to collaborate with Kate Spade NY for 2015 production. The On Purpose, Holiday 2014, Jack Spade collection is set to drop in nine Jack Spade retail stores throughout the U.S. this week.
