These bracelets are created by a women's cooperative of talented artisans outside Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The women in this artisan group are HIV-positive and have been ostracized from society. The women partner with farmers and land-owners who find and collect empty bullet casings. The shells are brought to the co-op, separated, sanitized, and then melted and made into different types of beads for creating a stunning collection of unique jewelry. These are made with both nickel and brass beads.
