These nickel earrings are created by a women's cooperative of talented artisans outside Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The women in this artisan group are HIV-positive and have been ostracized from society. These ladies partner with farmers and land-owners who find and collect empty bullet casings. The shells are brought to the co-op, separated, sanitized, and then melted and made into various beads for creating a stunning collection of unique jewelry.
